The polar bear and the grizzly bear are the largest predators on earth. Weighing over 500 kilos and growing up to 3 metres long, the polar bear is twice the size of a Siberian tiger. This enables it to hunt and swim at very low temperatures. The polar bear is a very good swimmer and has been seen up to 300 km from the coast. When searching for food, the polar bear benefits from a very sensitive sense of smell. It can pick up smells that are over 1.5 kilometres away or buried under a metre of snow! The polar bear's hearing and eyesight are comparable to those of humans. Polar bears live alone, but do not have a defined territory and enjoy playing with each other.
